I am literally transported when I read Skye Warren’s books, to a world of sin and power and debauchery. ~ Leigh – Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews
Who is Samantha Brooks without her violin? Fear lives in the silent spaces. Love does, too. There’s a battle being waged in her heart, and Liam North is determined to win. He’ll use every weapon in his arsenal. His body. His heart. Except the spotlight puts her in the crosshairs of dangerous men.
Samantha fights to compose her own ending, even as the final notes rise to a heartbreaking crescendo.
SONATA is the third and final book in the explosive trilogy with Samantha Brooks and Liam North. It should be read after OVERTURE and CONCERTO.
I’m a huge fan of everything that Skye Warren writes, yet I can’t help but be a little let down by this last book in what has been an otherwise fantastic trilogy.
As always, this story is written in the lyrical prose that is common to all of Ms. Warren’s books. The language is a pleasure to read, as it communicates more than just actions. The tone of her writing evokes emotions and feelings and sets the scene more powerfully than mere words ever could. She has a real talent for using words at more than face value and I’m always in awe of this ability. I am literally transported when I read her books, to a world of sin and power and debauchery.
In this North Security series, the first two books delivered a taboo romance and a strong plot, both of which I could not wait to see how they would be resolved. However, in this third installment, the taboo of the relationship between guardian and ward was downplayed, and instead turned into an internal struggle where the crux of the problem between Samantha and Liam was his feelings of how his past made him unworthy of her love and affection. Not what I was looking for in such a dominating, alpha-male like Liam.
I also am not sure I fully understood the mystery of who was trying to harm Samantha, exactly why, and what happened to those involved. These characters seemed to just fade into obscurity in the story and the resolution of a story that took two books to unfold was rushed and unsatisfying.
On the whole, I did enjoy the North Securities trilogy. I just felt that it would have been better to have more time spent with a resolution and less on Liam’s am I/am I not good for her dilemma.
