The latest installment of the True North series gives us a great look at Sarina’s diverse talent as a romance author. Fireworks manages to shine a light on her New Adult/ Young Adult skills and potential as Romantic Suspense writer in the future. This series continues to keep me looking forward to the next book. FABULOUS. ~ Ava, Guilty Pleasures
Blurb:
Skye Copeland is on paid leave from her broadcasting job after accidentally drawing a pecker on the traffic map.
Let that sink in. Like it’s her fault the traffic pattern created a perfect schlong?
Skye isn’t laughing. She needs this job. And that’s the only reason she’s willing to chase down a story in her least favorite place—that hell on earth known as Vermont.
A quick trip. In and out. Much like – never mind. She can sneak into the town that once tried to break her, get the story and slide back into the good graces of her producer. Easy peasy.
But things go sideways the moment she steps over the county line. Her stepsister is running from a violent drug dealer. And the cop on the case is none other than Benito Rossi, the man who broke Skye’s teenage heart.
His dark brown eyes still tear her apart. And even as she steels herself to finally tell him off after twelve years, the old fireworks are still there.
Things are about to go boom.
Man, I had never wanted to visit Vermont until I started reading this series. Between the apple cider and a gruff orchard farmer, this little
town has won a special place in my heart.
Benito we have gotten to know in small pieces as one of Zara’s brothers. He returned to Vermont and shared an apartment above the Gin Mill with Zara and her daughter a few books back. All these aww moments with the sweet baby. Sigh. I’ve been waiting for his day for awhile. Benito seemed to be the quiet reserved one and we don’t really know what been going on in his head but this second chance with Skye blows the lid off all his secrets. His heart was spoken for and nothing has changed.
As far as I recall this the first we’ve heard of Skye outside of an Epilogue in the last book. Skye’s past in Vermont is not so pretty. She’s covered that up with concealer and cashmere and got the heck out of dodge. Her life, is organized, predictable and up until recently nicely packaged to pay the bills. It’s definitely missing passion, but it’s not missing the drama her mother and string of losers left in her wake. So, Skye’s been running from her baggage, and her return to town definitely stirs up the past.
Benito and Skye are trying to unravel a mystery and the suspense kept me jumping in my seat. I couldn’t put it down. The attraction between these two characters was brewing ages ago, and it’s been aptly titled because it is Fireworks now. I loved the flashbacks to these characters as teens. This one can easily be read as a standalone, but I feel this series is best read in order, because it’s FABULOUS. <3
