Are you just going to stand there and watch?

Eleanor Briggs just can’t help herself. Every night, the sight of the man in the high-rise across the street is driving her wild. She longs to feel his touch up close and personal. To win him over, she’ll need to shake off her wallflower sensibilities and become the seductress she never imagined she could be. The only trouble will be finding the perfect way to meet him…

Or are you going to join in?

Sex is easy for millionaire entrepreneur Trey Riordan. Finding something of substance, however, seems impossible. That is until a simple night of reading at a local coffee shop becomes something far steamier when a beautiful brunette comes by and leaves a note telling him to look out his bedroom window at midnight. But when the time comes, neither of them will be truly ready for what follows…

I really hate to write this review because I typically adore Beth Kery’s books. They are darkly sexy, intriguing and have a plot which grabs me. And Looking Inside certainly did not disappoint on the eroticism. It was the plot that fell a bit flat for me.

Eleanor has fantasized about Trey from afar for a long time. She views him through her bedroom window and into his apartment across the way. She has developed an obsession for a man that she has never met, yet knows intimately just from her clandestine insight into his world. Determined to engage in an affair with him, she puts on a sexy façade and pulls him into a “no strings attached” sexual relationship. But she is constantly in fear that Trey will discover the real Eleanor that hides beneath the false, sexy exterior she portrays.

Sounds fantastic!

The only problem is that, at the risk of sounding snarky, the phrase “much ado about nothing” kept running through my head. I kept expecting to have a typical Beth Kery-esque twist where something unexpected would happen. Some part of Eleanor’s past that would pop up. Some dark secret that would be revealed. But unfortunately that never happened. There was no real secret that Eleanor was trying to hide, just the mousy museum historian that could pull off her glasses, shake down her hair and dance like a burlesque queen through the open window curtains at night. And as Trey was aware of this, the confessing of her secrets was pretty anticlimactic.

If I was rating this on steam alone, I would definitely give it a 5. Beth Kery writes scintillating sex scenes with men that are dominant in the bedroom and certainly creative. And for the concept of essentially stalking a stranger you observed through their bedroom window, I actually was on board with the idea. If the situation were reversed and Trey was doing the stalking I may have found it creepy, but with the tables turned, it was a nice twist. I just wish there was more to the plot than a woman who doesn’t want to reveal that while a freak in bed, she’s more bookish during her daylight hours.
