I suppose you can call Beta Test an opposites attract story, but in reality it was more than that; it was two people really discovering who they are, gaining the strength to stand up to their families, and learning that loving someone requires a whole lot of give and take. ~ Slick, Guilty Pleasures
Description:
Player vs. Player. Fight!
Brilliant graphic designer Ravi Tandel is ahead of the game—he’s just been asked to present a top secret project at a huge conference in Seattle. All systems are go…until he learns his buttoned-up office nemesis is coming along for the ride.
Tristan Jones isn’t really the gamer type, but he knows the back end of the video game business inside out. Together, he and Ravi will give an awesome presentation. If they survive the cross-country trip first.
Tossed together in close quarters, Ravi’s shocked to see Tristan’s sexy, softer side emerge from such a conservative shell. He’s less shocked to learn his handsome colleague’s prominent family would never support an out-and-proud son. But Ravi didn’t struggle through his own coming out to hide who he is now. To be together, Tristan will have to push past his fear and ultimately decide: Does he want a future with Ravi? Or is it game over before they’ve even begun?

There is always something so refreshing about a book from Annabeth Albert and Beta Test, the second book in her Gaymers series, is pretty damn fantastic. I suppose you can call this an opposites attract story, but in reality it was more than that; it was two people really discovering who they are, gaining the strength to stand up to their families, and learning that loving someone requires a whole lot of give and take. Beta Test was charming, engaging, sexy and all together one pretty fantastic romance.
On their first day working for Christopher Exploration Industries, the developer of Space Villager, an online video game Tristan is ready to impress his bosses and new colleagues when in walks Ravi. Ravi is all flash, smiles and somewhat of an extrovert who draws people like flies to honey. While Tristan is immediately attracted to him, he cuts that off mainly because he feels he could never get a guy like Ravi but also because family duty requires him to be circumspect. Tristan is the polar opposite of Raiv; he is introverted, cautious and very, very organized. (I had to LOL at Tristan and his spreadsheets because HELLO who doesn’t love spreadsheets?) These two don’t get off on the right foot and when an incident leads to Tristan “outing” himself in a social situation due to Ravi’s pushing.
When these two have to take over a big project for work, a long road trip and a whole lot of craziness helps them get to know one another, begin to form a friendship that eventually turns into more. Their intimate moments were at times a bit strange as Tristan has some big hang ups, but overtime they became romantic, sensual and downright sexy with both Ravi and Tristan realizing just what they’d both been missing in their previous encounters. They are both worried about being involved and working together and Tristan is worried about word getting around, but in the end they find they are miserable apart and being together is worth everything they must endure.
I liked that they both had family issues and while they were different, it was a bonding point for them. Over the course of this book we saw a lot of self discovery in both of them. Honestly their family issues were the biggest conflict in the book and could have added way more angst, but both Ravi and Tristan were good about communicating and neither one was shy about expressing their opinions and offering advice and help.
Beta Test was a sexy story but it was also endearing and left me feeling happy and that my friends is why I read, so well done Ms. Albert!
