Classic Candace Blevins. A story filled with adventures, unbelievable BDSM scenes, Vampires and other Supernaturals. As human and Vampire come together, you can’t help but wonder just how this is all going to turn out. ~ Kitty, Guilty Pleasures

24942539Description:
As the vampires begin to realize bagged blood isn’t giving them what they need, Kendra goes in search of a human companion. She’s been a Domme for the past thousand years, and has never had trouble finding human men who want to submit to her.

Eric is a human adrenaline junkie who spends his time hang gliding and jumping out of perfectly good airplanes when he isn’t creating video games. And he smells of sunshine and blue skies — addictive to a vampire who’s seen neither for nearly three thousand years.

Unfortunately, he’s a Dom. But he’s so full of life, and he gives her adventures when she’d forgotten how to live with joy.

As the two navigate their compatibility in bed, Eric must figure out whether he can handle living in Kendra’s world, and the vampires have to figure out whether they can deal with their third in command submitting to a human they feel is so far beneath them on the evolutionary ladder.

While Kendra and Eric work through their personal challenges, they must also fight a group of powerful supernaturals planning to enslave Eric in an effort to exploit his skills and further their own agenda.

Can Kendra and Eric battle all of this to find happiness?

Warnings: This title contains consensual BDSM (M/f and F/m), bondage, mild discipline, use of toys including anal plugs, penis plugs, cuffs, floggers, and canes. Also, the bad guys are subjected to torture and extreme violence.

I am thoroughly enjoying Candace Blevins foray into Paranormal Romance and look forward to the books that she is putting out in her new series. As she ventures into this territory and combines it with what we all love her for, she shows us a completely different side of both worlds.

But, I was a little taken aback with Riding the Storm and parts were actually difficult for me to read. Now, it could just be me and I am sure that a lot of readers will really enjoy the whole storyline but, I had a really hard time with Kendra and the character that she portrayed. She confused me at times and came off as a very “hard” person. Now, I am all for strong woman who know what they want and go after it but, Kendra just gave me a vibe that, even now, I still can’t understand why she didn’t click with me. Just when I thought that there would be some “give” on her part, there isn’t.

Now, she loves Eric and would go to the ends of the earth for what they have together but I just can’t see them together as they are written. Eric is a Dom and Kendra is a Domme. BUT, I am not sure if she’s a Domme because she’s a Vampire and can get others to bend to her or if she is truly wired that way.

Eric submits to her out of love and respect after he falls apart about who and what she really is. After much soul searching and some realizations, he comes to terms with her being a Vampire and give her his all. He struggles with not being able to protect her and not having a family but knows that he truly loves her and is willing to do whatever it takes to keep her in his life.

***Possible Spoiler ***

Kendra does submit to him knowing that she could jeopardize everything that she has being third in command in Abbot’s household. But, she also needs to prove to him that she does love him. Something that he doubts because of her being a Vampire. Maybe I’m not used to Dommes … maybe I am used to the Dom that is also loving and caring … she didn’t come off that way to me when Eric submitted to her. She came off as hard and demanding to a person that was truly terrified of submitting to her. I had the feeling that she did it because he wanted to prove to her that he was really sorry and just because she could. I think that’s what bothered me.

***End Spoiler***

As for the story – I loved it. It was filled with action and adventures and visits with all the characters from the beginning of the series. But, I do need to warn you that there is some extreme violence in the story. Funny, that didn’t bother me. And, the fact that she is crossing over the Only Human Series with the Chattanooga Supernaturals and The Rolling Thunder Motorcycle Club just makes me a very happy person. They are all intertwined with each other and all have cameo’s throughout. Even though this could probably be read as a standalone, I wouldn’t suggest it. First, as I said, there are crossovers from the other books but the most important reason is because you would be cheating yourself out of some wonderful books.

So, even though Kendra just didn’t do it for me, I loved the book. Candace kept the story moving and, in classic Blevins style, the sex and BDSM scenes were unbelievably erotic and flowed within the story. I am looking forward to see how Kendra and Eric pull this off and I am sure that we will find out in future books but, my solution ….. I am praying that something happens and Kendra has to turn Eric. Then, they will be on a more even playing field and I could actually see them together for the long haul.
