I was hoping for two things from my new job as the head teacher of Puffin Bay’s primary school: zero relationship complications and a quiet life where I could focus on my career.

Meeting Romy McAllister, widow of the town’s maritime hero, was unavoidable given that she had a daughter at my school. She was fierce and beautiful; becoming friends with her was going to make my life complicated, but I did it anyway. She’d said she had a crush on me - I pretended I didn’t feel the same.

Life could’ve been simple if Romy hadn’t delved too deep into what was going on in the private life of one of her friends. Nowhere does secrets like a small town, and when those secrets started to threaten Romy and her daughter, I chose to throw my chances of a quiet life away.

Even if it meant I risked breaking my heart and hers in the process.

Cooper Cliffs was a story of two adults and two children finding their way as their lives changed very rapidly and becoming a family filled with the love and happiness they all deserved. ~ Sharon – Simply Love Books

I’m so glad Annie Dyer posted a note at the beginning of this book about its origin and the way it fits into the series. I adored Copper Cliffs; this couple and the two adorable little girls who were very present throughout the story made it heartwarming, charming, and entertaining. This wasn’t an easy story; both Romy and Cassian have experienced loss in different ways, Romy being a widow and Cass when he finds his wife having an affair with his best friend which led him to relocating to Puffin Bay and is new job as the new head teacher (principal for those of us from the states) of the elementary school.

Romy is a single mom whose husband died saving a boy during a storm rescue at sea, it’s been several years and she’s grateful for the town and her friends who helped her through her loss. Her daughter Heidi is a force to be reckoned with; bright, talkative, and always looking out for others especially her friend Mia who they soon discover has been left alone and locked out of her home my her mother. While trying to figure out where Mia’s mom might have gone by asking her friends at the pub, Romy meets Cassian, the new head teacher and they work together to help get Mia settled and feel safe.

This book had a bit of a suspense angle to it that isn’t always my favorite in romance, but because I loved these characters so much I rolled with it and I’m glad I did. Ms. Dyer rarely writes all light and fluffy books and this one definitely took on a bit of a darker note as the mystery of Mia’s missing mother and what exactly Mia knows all comes into play.

I loved the way Romy and Cass worked through all of this along with a very thoughtful social worker and a police detective that is Romy’s friend. Through it all they are supported by the town to make sure everyone is safe.

I liked that both Romy and Cass were a bit nervous to start dating again, that they had a few missteps along the way but were mature enough to talk through them and find their way together. I smiled every time Cass interacted with Heidi and Mia and the fact he knew just how to talk to them in a way they understood and he didn’t have to fake enjoying spending time with them because he genuinely loved children.

There’s only one more book left in this series and while it’s probably time to move on from Puffin Bay, I’ll miss it. I remember when Amalie moved there and the series started and I have loved watching this series develop along the way. Cooper Cliffs was a story of two adults and two children finding their way as their lives changed very rapidly and becoming a family filled with the love and happiness they all deserved.

About Annie Dyer

Annie lives in the north of England, not too far from the amazing city of Manchester. She is owned by several cats and many hens, narrowly avoiding being a mad cat woman by enslaving a very understanding husband. She’s an avid reader of many genres and if she’s not writing a book, she’s usually reading one!
