What do you do when you find out your husband’s cheating on you, your aunt just passed away in Florida, and your boss gave the promotion to your work nemesis, so you threaten him with bodily harm in the middle of a board meeting?
Well, after getting escorted out of the building by security, I fly straight to Sunshine Key to deal with my aunt’s estate. There, I meet my new neighbor, a gorgeous, surly man with all the charm of a rusty anchor, but at least he’s easy on the eyes when he’s not scowling. My aunt leaves her boat club to the two of us. Fifty-fifty ownership despite the fact I know absolutely nothing about boats. Or Florida. The will declares I have to live on this tiny key one full year if I want to inherit the oceanfront house too.
As I reclaim who I am as a woman, as well as discover which pieces of my fractured life I want to glue back together, Dec Boggs starts to show a sensitive, protective side under that crusty exterior that has my battered heart beating again. But the man is hiding from his own past and not even a string of boat rides, gator encounters, and sultry nights below the palm trees can get him to open up. More secrets get revealed with each day I spend in Florida and old family wounds are exposed.
Should I abandon ship after the year is up? Or will this salty life in the Sunshine State become a salt love?
Salt Love is a summer romantic comedy romp from west coast to east, featuring a down-on-her-luck woman with a firm grip on her hair straightener now living in the world’s worst humidity. Get swept away with the reclusive man next door with secrets galore, a meddling father, and an affinity for kissing his new neighbor. No hair was actually harmed in the making of this RomCom and yes, they really do drive that badly in Florida. This book of self discovery and second chances at love stands alone and ends with a happily every after with just the right sprinkling of flamingos.
Salt Love was a feel good story about embracing change and being true to yourself. A fun, flirty, and entertaining story, I loved this one. ~ Sharon – Simply Love Books
Looking for a summer pool side or beach read? Look no further than Marika Ray’s Salt Love. This book was filled with interesting characters, fun, laughter, and two people who seem complete opposites finding a love neither one wanted or expected.
Kenna is a self made woman who spent her childhood taking care of herself and managing a household for her free spirited mother. After realizing her husband is cheating on her, then during a big work presentation realizing her co-worker is the one he’s cheating with, she quits her job, and isn’t quite sure what she’s going to do until she learns that her Aunt Maeve whom she really didn’t know died and left her house to her in Sunshine Key, Florida. Deciding to take care of dealing with the estate has her leaving California for Florida and learning not only did she inherit a house, but a business with a man she didn’t make a great first impression with who also happens to be her new neighbor.
Dec isn’t quite sure what to think of the buttoned up, disheveled, ranting woman who his late neighbor and friend Maeve left her estate to, but he knows there’s something about her that intrigues him and he doesn’t want to be intrigued. Finding out she has to stay a year in order to get her inheritance is a headache he’s not ready for, but he also can’t deny the connection they seem to have.
I was immediately drawn into this story once Kenna and Dec met and I found it hard to put the book down. While I did figure out about most of Dec’s past from things that were said and implied I also understood why him not filling Kenna in was a big deal to her. I loved watching Kenna transform and eventually embracing the “salt life” and Dec falling for her more and more each day.
Salt Love was a feel good story about embracing change and being true to yourself. A fun, flirty, and entertaining story, I loved this one.
