I loved All That Matters by Felice Steven; it was the perfect balance of sweet and s*xy with characters both dealing with damage from recent ex’s, and family drama some from long ago and some more recent. With a 14 year age difference, financial disparity, and one living in NYC and one in Ft. Lauderdale, you’d think this would be a super angst filled book, but instead I found it to be rather uplifting and hopeful. That’s not to discount that both these men were dealing with some heavy things, big decisions, and often questioned if they could trust what they were feeling, but the support they offered one another and stellar communication skills led them both to a love they both desired and deserved.
When 28 year old tour guide Nico sees 42 year old dermatologist Ford on one of his Hop On/Off bus tours, he can’t help but notice him and be interested. They share a few interactions during the tour, but when Nico finds Ford’s wallet and returns it to him there is a definite spark. But Ford is in town for just a couple of days and doesn’t do hook-ups and Nico isn’t about to set himself up for heartbreak again especially with a guy from out of town, but neither can forget the other and when Ford has the opportunity to return for a conference he takes it. I really loved these two; both had been hurt in previous relationships and had trouble letting go and trusting again yet every time they were together both proved they were men of their word. Nico had some issues with Ford’s wealth and worried people will assume he’s with him for that reason. Meanwhile Ford is worried people will wonder what a hot, young guy like Nico sees in him. They both do a great job of alleviating each other’s fears and I loved that Ford made a priority of seeing Nico as often as he could which allowed them to get to know one another even better. However, my favorite part of this book was how easily Ford was “adopted” into Nico’s family and friends circle, something he desperately needed as he was completely alone save for two dedicated office staff.
While each man was dealing with issues both professionally and personally the other one was there to comfort, advice, and support and I loved that for both of them. Nico’s lovely family and friends group made me smile each time they were together and despite lasagna not being my favorite Italian dish, I found myself wanting to visit the fictional La Dolce Vita.
All That Matters was a heart-warming, feel good, love story and a perfect book for Pride Month.
