Meet the OG Matzo Ballers: Eight friends who became found family, living and loving their best lives on a yearly Hanukkah harbor cruise around Manhattan…

It was only supposed to last for one night.

Work-obsessed Nora Ruben is tired of playing by all the rules. Especially when no one else seems to be. When her boss delivers grim news – at the company “holiday” party, of all places – she’s done being the model employee. At least for one night – the night of the Matzo Baller, her friend’s famed Hanukkah harbor cruise around Manhattan. And if the cute co-worker from the suburban office is along for the ride? All the better.

She has just one condition: no work talk, from sundown to sunrise.

Alex Beckman has never quite found where he fits in his family’s business. And he never wanted to take the lead on a major acquisition, especially of a company he knows nothing about. But when he’s sent to reduce the staff by half – and finds sexy, whip-smart Nora Ruben at the top of the list –  he’s determined to dig deeper. It helps that she assumes he’s just a fellow comrade in the cubicles. When Nora invites him to ditch the party for the cruise, this nice Midwestern Jewish boy jumps at the chance…

But when eight hours on a boat turns into an amazing weekend together…firing Nora is the last thing on Alex’s mind. Will their Hanukkah hook-up confirm his worst fears about the future of his family business – or be the beginning of something miraculous?

The Hanukkah Hook-Up was a fantastic story of light and love. ~ Sharon – Simply Love Books

The Hanukkah Hook-Up by Jessica Topper was a fun, crazy, fast and furious romance that takes in New York City the week of Hanukkah.  I loved this story; not only were the characters interesting and charming, but their meet-cute set them on an interesting path given they work for the same company and are both keeping secrets.

Nora Ruben cannot believe she has to miss this year’s Matzo Baller evening cruise because a “suit” from the home office is coming in for some meetings on Monday and will be attending the company’s “holiday party” (read Christmas party renamed to appear inclusive). She’s not happy about missing the cruise, a tradition with her friends she met during her gap year, but when she meets Beck she thinks maybe the night might not be so bad especially when they skip out together to take the cruise.

This book was chocked full of Hanukkah celebrations, and an insta-connection between Nora and Beck that could not be denied. I loved the way this author, wove their past into the story as Nora shows Beck how NYC puts on a show for the holidays and even more how important the employees she supervises are essential to set their company apart from the others.

From the sights and sounds of NYC during the holidays, the descriptions of yummy holiday treats, a wonderful and meaningful Hanukkah gift exchange, and two people finding each other despite the odds; The Hanukkah Hook-Up was a fantastic story of light and love.

About Jessica Topper

Jessica Topper has been in love with the beauty of the written word ever since she memorized Maurice Sendak’s Chicken Soup with Rice at the age of three.

After earning a B.A. in English Literature and her Master’s Degree in Library Science, Jessica went on to work as a librarian in New York City before trading in the books for bookkeeping. For seventeen years, she worked in the production office of an international touring rock band.

Jessica broke the rock romance mold with her 2013 debut novel LOUDER THAN LOVE. Her follow-up romantic comedy, DICTATORSHIP OF THE DRESS, was named one of Publishers Weekly’s Best Books of 2015.

She lives in Western New York with her family – including two cats that love to walk across her keyboard.
