Romances where there is a heavy feel aren’t my favorites, but Ms. Meader did a good job of tempering the serious and sad parts with cute kid time and sweet friends. ~ Sharon – Simply Love Books

First off, I applaud this author for the content warnings at the beginning of the book it did help soften the blow somewhat even though I figured out in the first chapter what the outcome would be.

Sam Killian is riding high after getting a spot on the Rescue Squad at Chicago FD’s Engine 6, but before his first shift it’s time to celebrate his nephew’s third birthday despite having to spend time with his sister-in-law Cassandra “Cassie” Ferguson; the woman who rejected him years ago at the wedding of their siblings. Both heart wrenching and heart-warming, Hot To the Touch was an emotional roller coaster ride from start to finish.

When tragedy strikes, Sam and Cassie must put aside their differences to care for their niece and nephew. They were both guilty of making assumptions about each other and as they spent time together with the kids, they began to see each other in a new light. I enjoyed watching them start to appreciate the little things about one another including how good they both were with the kiddos in their own way.

I loved seeing the characters from the other books in this series and the words of wisdom and support when needed.

I wasn’t thrilled with the fact Cassie had a boyfriend for a good part of this book and wished that had been resolved sooner. While I didn’t doubt the feelings between Sam and Cassie, I would have liked more time with them as a couple, but I wasn’t sad about the outcome of this book.
