For Rylan Greene and me, it was simple. Love only got us so far.
I’ve known him since we were six, long before he became the professional soccer star he is now. We’ve weaved in and out of one another’s lives as rivals, teammates, friends, and lovers. Until three years ago, when my life took a hit and I ran back to my small Alaskan town, Lake Starlight, away from anything or anyone that could hurt me.
He’s never far from my mind, a constant pining ache in my heart, but I’ve convinced myself I’m better off. But now, my best friend announces her engagement and that means Rylan will return home to stand as best man to her fiancé.
He’ll be back in my orbit for three whole weeks… but I can easily keep my distance. Sure, we’ll have to walk arm in arm down the aisle together, he’ll hold me close during the bridal party dance and we’ll stand for pictures next to each other. Nothing I can’t handle.
I’m so naïve though because he’s not in town for more than twenty-four hours before he knocks on my door. I should know by now, that the two of us will never be finished business.
This second chance romance spans sixteen years of a true love match that proves these two will only ever belong to one another.
Once I began The Problem With Second Chances I could not put it down, seriously read it cover to cover and am ready to pick up and read it again. This story was beautiful, charming, and poignant; a timeless love story for the ages. I loved it! ~ Sharon – Simply Love Books
I’ll be honest; I was a bit hesitant to read this book even though I’d wanted this book for some time now. It is NEVER easy when there are two characters that seem to belong together (I’m looking at you Boone and Sierra (Unbreak My Heart) and you Jamie and Katie (Dropping Gloves)) but life has other plans plus it doesn’t help when you’ve know each other since you were six, competed against each other most of your childhood, became high school sweethearts with all with your family members in two small towns watching you and waiting for you to declare your love and get married. I refuse to spoil this book for anyone, but I do want to commend the authors who make up Piper Rayne for the way they handled so much in this book; it was done with respect, dignity, and grace and for that I thank you. I teared-up multiple times throughout this story even though I knew this couple would finally figure it out, but getting there…man, it was tough.
I’m not a lover of angst, but I went into The Problem With Second Chances knowing there was going to be angst. I mean knowing someone for most of your life and loving them for a decade and a half even when you haven’t been together; there’s going to be a lot of rough patches. Rylan Greene and Calista Bailey spent years in each other’s orbit and at one point they had it all; careers playing the sport that brought them together until one game ended a career and sidetracked their life once again.
Filled with laughter, tears, love, and hope this book was everything I wanted and more. Memories of their relationship from the start interspersed with real time interactions showed two people who absolutely loved one another but wanted different things out of life. There wasn’t a doubt in my mind that Rylan and Calista didn’t have chemistry, but their connection went beyond that and was something so rare they both have been unable to move on. With Ry back home for the wedding of their two best friends, he and Calista must find a way to work together. At times I wanted to bop both of them upside their heads but I didn’t have to because there people around to do it for me in the sneakiest of ways.
