Iris:
As a woman born into an Irish crime family, I'm expendable.
It's why I've extricated myself from that life.
Only now, I'm wrapped up in another one when I witness the death of the president of a motorcycle outlaw club.
And the club's sergeant at arms has declared himself as my protector... Or stalker.
And I can't decide if he terrifies or excites me.

Spark:
Too many people have died on my watch in Kabul and New Jersey.
My conscience can't carry the weight of one more. Especially a pretty young thing with eyes that pierce my truths.
But her family is our enemy. One of many.
And she hates the things I pride myself in standing for.
Until she needs me to play her family's deadly game. A game to ruin us all.

The story between Spark and Iris was surprisingly tender. Both of these people were broken in their own ways and needed the strengths the other could give them to fight their demons together and come out the other side stronger. ~ Leigh – Simply Love Books

Motorcycle Club stories are either a big hit or a big miss for me. When they’re too simplistic or the clubhouse is just some place the characters hang out, I’m not interested. I want the stories gritty and involved, with complex characters and a sense of family. It’s for these reasons that I’m totally hooked on this series and the men of the Iron Outlaws.

Even though we met Spark and Iris in the previous book, The Games We Play can certainly be read as a stand alone story. Their meeting is retold, and getting to experience it from their point of view brings out so much more emotion and understanding.

Spark is a combat veteran suffering from PTSD. His guilt over his inability to save his unit in Kabul has transformed itself into a need to protect everyone else. From his brothers, to his club, to the delicate woman he encounters while trying to gain information regarding his President’s death, Spark tasks himself with keeping everyone safe. But the need to keep Iris safe quickly morphs into a need simply to keep her.

Iris was born into an Irish crime family, one at odds with the Iron Outlaws. As a teacher, Iris has tried to escape the ties of her uncle and the pull of the mob, but is still used as a pawn for their needs. Knowing she is not cut out to live a life in a family like hers or the one that Spark belongs to, she pushes against the chemistry that occurs between herself and Spark. But if two people were meant for one another, it’s this couple.

The story between Spark and Iris was surprisingly tender. Iris is an innocent wisp of a girl, but has a backbone of steel when required. Spark is the gruff, dominant man that has such a soft side for this woman who brings him to his knees. Both of these people were broken in their own ways and needed the strengths the other could give them. I fell in love with both of them and their journey to get to a place where they could fight their demons together and come out the other side stronger.

The epilogue set up the next book perfectly. And while Spark may currently be my favorite, I have a feeling that Saint and his story will give him a run for his money.

About Scarlett Cole

Scarlett Cole is a contemporary romance and romantic suspense author who calls both Toronto, Canada and Manchester, England home. A born city dweller, she periodically quashes the urge to live in the country by hiking up a mountain to remind herself that living away from people would terrify the pants off her.

She believes everybody deserves their love story to be told and loves her heroes on the rough and rugged side…and usually tall (because she married one of those 6ft 6” men you read about in romance!). She’s an A-type personality and Scorpio star sign, so good luck getting her to do anything she doesn’t want to.

When she isn’t writing, she’s happy to talk hot men and expensive shoes while drinking a cold gin and tonic. Don’t bring up olives. As far as Scarlett is concerned, they are the devil’s food. As long as you don’t bring up olives, she’s happy to hear from any time.
