A new, sexy standalone from #1 New York Times Bestseller, Vi Keeland.
It started out like any other Tuesday.
I spent twelve hours writing algorithms for one of the largest companies in the world and then came home to work on a pet project of mine—feeding facts about the men I knew into a formula to find my perfect match before my twenties came barreling to a close.
But then a man knocked on my door and handed me some papers that turned my life upside down.
Apparently, a father I never knew existed had left me something in his will. That something turned out to be part ownership in a professional football team.
Next thing I knew, I was learning a sport I knew nothing about by spending time with the team’s quarterback who was out with an injury, a man who my formula would definitely determine was all wrong for me.
Christian Knox was too handsome and confident for his own good and could have any woman he wanted. Only lately the only woman he seemed to want was me.
But there was no way I was getting involved when I was now his boss, even if he was insanely gorgeous and had the dirtiest mouth I’d ever come across.
It would be wrong, wouldn’t it?
Probably. But you know what they say about things that are wrong...sometimes they feel so right.
The Game has some twists and drama and a sweet, sexy hero that will ruin you for all other men. ~ Leigh – Simply Love Books
Vi Keeland is always a one-click for me, without even needing to know what the story is about. Her men are so perfect that they honestly ruin me for reality, and the slow burn of her romances just makes me swoon.
Christian was yet again another perfect man. A professional football player with a sense of humor and unerring aim. And his sights are set on Bella, the new owner of his football team. Bella is, to put it nicely, a math geek. More comfortable with calculations and equations than people and relationships, Bella is stunned to find that a father she never knew left her a majority share of a major league team. Bound and determined to learn about her new role, Christian offers his services of assisting Bella in gaining an understanding of the players and the game, all while playing one of his own.
I have to admit that I was shocked to see that the story started several years after Bella learned of her inheritance. We are told about these things in references to the past, and I would have liked to have seen that as it took place.
I also was surprised at the speed at which Christian knew that he and Bella were meant for one another. Typically in Vi Keeland’s books, this is something where the main characters have amazing chemistry, but dance around the attraction, letting everything simmer until it’s inevitable. Here, Christian told Bella that they needed to go on a date, and from that point forward it was game on. She may have pushed back, but he was dedicated in his pursuit and never waivered. I wasn’t sure how he knew with such certainty right from the get-go that Bella was the one for him, but it was still a sweet and cute dance to watch Christian do everything in his power to convince Bella that they needed to give a relationship a chance.
The side characters that the author introduced really brought the story to life as they gave so much depth to the main characters and the type of people they are. Bella’s relationships with her best friends and grandfather soften her sometimes stiff edges, and Christian’s relationship with his former coach and his twin brother give a glimpse of the boy that turned into such an honorable man.
The Game has some twists and drama, but overall, it’s a fun, sweet, sexy story with a hero that will ruin you for all other men.
