He plays to win; only she changed the rules....
As Manchester Athletic’s record signing, I should be basking in the adoration of fans and enjoying the perks that come with the job.
Only that’s never been my style. I keep a low profile and stay focused on doing my job.
A chance one-night stand on my way back from the States is about as anonymous as I can make it. She had no idea who I was, and I was pretty sure she gave me a fake name too. No numbers were exchanged, and we headed back to our so-called ordinary lives.
The chance of a repeat should’ve been zero. Until we meet again in Manchester. Different names this time, but the same chemistry.
Two people escaping their realities in anonymous hotels.
It’s the perfect relationship until the media reveals our true identities to the world - and each other.Hollywood Ball is the second standalone in the Manchester Athletic series. It’s a fake identity, insta-lust, jet set romance with a super geek soccer player and a super-sassy heroine.
From the first page to the last, Hollywood Ball was simply a delight to read and I cannot wait for the next book in this fab series to drop! ~ Sharon – Simply Love Books
I picked up the first book in this series just because, but I was already interested in what was going on with the hero in Hollywood Ball from that book and I had to find out more about him. Well, let me tell you Annie Dyer outdid herself with this book! It was smart, sexy, funny, refreshing, and a whole bunch of more adjectives I can’t think of at the moment. This couple meets in a hotel bar in Houston during a tropical storm, they are both from England, and that’s basically all they know about one another other than they are very compatible physically. No real names, no personal information, just pleasure until they depart again. Not going to lie, their time together was hot and it was all about the physical. The twist, they both are somewhat famous but have no idea who the other one is and there are reasons, but then they meet again in another hotel bar purely on accident, what are the odds?
Ryan O’Connell is a pro footballer and Ottilie (Otter) Penhaligon is an actress who is currently making a name for herself in a binge-worthy show on cable, she doesn’t follow sports and he’s a computer/math nerd who when he isn’t training or playing football is coding for the business he owns with a friend (former girlfriend). I loved these two because despite being high profile they were really down to earth and while they were somewhat different, they had so much in common.
They spend a few months meeting each other secretly to spend time together and yes, there is a purely physical relationship at the start. But then they begin texting, a phone call her or there, some s*xting and getting to know you questions. Learning about each other, missing one another, and always looking forward to when their schedules allow them to be together again. I adored the way this couple’s relationship came together; they had such hot chemistry from the start but the more time they spent together and the more they learned about one another the yearning came and it was fabulous.
Ryan knows he maybe has 4 more years of playing left and he’s making a plan for when he exits the game. He’s buying a house and property and he’s making sure it has everything he’ll need once he retires. Otter is very devoted to her career and she has goals she intends to see through. I loved her devotion to her craft but also that she was being smart about the types of roles she took. What I loved most was there was very little drama between these two. When photos were leaked of them they worked with it, when they knew they wouldn’t be able to see one another for quite some time, they were adults about it. When the press made up stories about them, they talked about it. I loved that they had this trust and respected each other enough to be honest throughout their relationship.
